A referral is only as good as the information behind it. Here's what stands behind each ReferMe match. The numbers are live.

The provider exists
Every provider starts as an active individual NPI in the federal NPPES registry, practicing (not just receiving mail) in our service ZIP codes.

The license is active
We match each provider to California's official licensee lists (Board of Behavioral Sciences, Psychology, Medical, Osteopathic, Registered Nursing), using the license number they reported to NPPES plus their name.

Every detail is cited
An AI research assistant reads the provider's own website and trusted directories. It first confirms the page is really about this provider (name, credential, phone and address), then records only facts it can quote word for word. We check every quote against the page and discard anything we can't verify.

Providers can confirm and correct
Providers claim their profile with a code sent only to contact details already on file (their NPI record's phone, or an email on their own website), then confirm availability and fix mistakes. Their changes are labeled and dated.

What we don't do
Providers can't pay to rank higher. Ranking uses only clinical fit, how well each detail is sourced, how recently it was verified, and whether the provider has confirmed their profile.
We never store patient names or identifiers. Referral links expire after 14 days.
We don't diagnose. Clinicians choose the kind of care; patients add practical preferences.
We don't yet check disciplinary history automatically. Each profile links to the state's official license lookup.
